It was estimated on my ePal that I was going to be spending around 1500 on books.
I just wanted to know if this is actually true or what the average usually is.
Just trying to cut costs and plan ahead, like any future college student lol

It depends on which classes you take. You can save money by buying textbooks online/ off fellow students when ever possible (versus buying at the campus bookstore).

Look for your books on eBay or Amazon…it’ll probably work out much cheaper than buying at the bookstore.

It will really depend on the classes you’ll be taking. If you’re in science, engineering or math, it would not surprise me that books would run at least $900 a year even if you buy the cheapest copies you can find on amazon and other used book sources. If, on the other hand, you’re taking primarily classes outside those areas it could be as low as $400 a year. With math or science books that are new editions (and thus really expensive even if used) you can check with the professor and see if the prior edition would be okay instead since money is tight – but if the book is one (like calculus) that is used for several quarters, I’d probably push to get the current edition, since a future prof might have a different reaction. Book rental may also be a possibility if you aren’t a person who writes in books and if you can keep them in very good condition.

The other alternative is to look for cheap foreign (often paperback) editions of the exact same textbook. While they’re not sold here, they’re often available used on Amazon, and they can be just fine.
