Cost of Smith: retrospective note

<p>The only two days a year when I am less than extremely fond of Smith are the two days when I write checks for our portion of the tuiton, room, and board.</p>

<p>At the latest local Smith gathering, I was talking to an alumna who said that it cost her $2,500/year. That was envy-inducing enough but another topped it by saying that it was $1,400 for her first year and her father was outraged when it went to $1,600. Of course, a cup of good coffee was probably a nickel.</p>

<p>To me, the day I pay the tuition bill is by far the happiest day of the year - I smile all day in that I am able to pay it.</p>

<p>Smith has been incredibly good to us (we just received the last financial aid package) and I only hope that someday my d. (who returned home from Italy today!!!)will be able to return the favor.</p>
