SAT: 1230 (630 M, 600 R) 20/24 Essay Score
UW GPA: 91 Weighted GPA: 97
I have taken all honors classes throughout high school. I have take 3 APs (Chem, Stats, Government)
I was a Senate Page at my state’s State House, I was an intern at a State office, I tutored middle school kids, I went on a mission trip to FL, I taught retired nuns how to use technology, I was a hospital volunteer, and I was in numerous clubs.
I am applying ED part 2 to CAS with a major in Biology.
I have two teacher recommendations that are pretty good, a counselor recommendation, and one from a previous employer.
I have visited the school and have been in touch with the regional admissions counselor.
Do I have a chance?
Do you have a chance at where? Which school? I don’t see a school name in your post.
Which university?
Sorry, for Boston University
Last year, BU’s overall admit rate was 32.6%. The overall ED admit rate was 43.1%, but on the CDS they did not break down ED1 and ED2. ED2 chances were and are probably lower.
So I would say that the average applicant probably has about a 30% chance overall and probably a somewhat higher chance in ED2 – let’s say, 35%.
BU most values rigor, the interview, and talent in its evaluation of applicants. They claim to value test scores and GPA at least roughly equally, according to the CDS.
Their average GPA among admits (or is that for enrolled students? CDS terminology is fuzzy) last year was 3.61 and the 25th/75th% for SAT among enrolled students – clear terminology there – was about 1200-1400.
So you’re about average on GPA and below average on SAT. If they find that you are talented, if you had/have a good interview, and if you took the hardest courses at your school, those factors will definitely help.
I would call BU probably a high match for you in the ED2 round based solely on last year’s CDS and your stats. Obviously doing well on other parts of the app will help. So, yes, you could get in, but BU is far from a safe bet. Make sure you apply to more schools, including at least one safety. Only apply to schools that are affordable – run the NPC and talk to your folks about how much they are willing to spend.
BU does not do interviews. The CDS figures include CGS enrollees. Be sure to choose the CGS option to improve your chances.
Have you run the Net Price Calculator to make sure that Boston University is an affordable option for your family?
Thank you for the responses. Yes, BU is an affordable option for my family. Do you think I have a higher chance for admission by applying ED ?
