Hello! Unfortunatly, i do not think I am going to be able to visit all of the colleges I want to apply to. So, I went to the internet to find a few answers from people on what they think these colleges are like for the average person (i know most have a lot of diversity), average SAT score and grades to get in, the atmosphere, and anything else you know about these schools:
-Stanford (dream school)
-University of Florida
-Florida State University (meh)
University of north Carolina
-Duke
-Wake Forest U
-University of Virginia
-Boston College
-Vanderbilt
Hi there. I just started as a freshman at Stanford and I can definitely help give some insight about Stanford. First of all, not much of a chance if your SATs aren’t above a 2200. Also, the biggest piece of advice I can give to anyone looking to apply, and I can’t stress this enough, is to set yourself apart. In my first couple weeks here, I have met so many incredible people each with a different story of something amazing that they have done to earn an acceptance. If you can show that you are different and bring something to the table that nobody else does; you have a chance. In terms of life at the school, it really depends on what you are into. For example, if you are into partying, the school is extremely laid back about alcohol and partying. There is always something going on Friday and Saturday nights and occasionally during the week. If you do not like to party, there are always people in the dorm to just hang out and do basically anything you want. The work load is very manageable if you take the right classes. Advice I would give for workload is to not reach for the top shelf for classes right away. Get settled in and don’t go for more than 15 units first quarter. Also, there is just always something to do on campus. It is really a great place that is nearly impossible to not enjoy. Any other questions feel free to ask!
@tommyk9214 You are so lucky (well, in the sense that you probably worked super hard to get in!) I LOVE Stanford ever since I visited whilst on a trip to San Fransisco (I want to live there also haha). I have been super obsessed lately with looking up on the web " how to get into stanford" “admissions at stanford” and all that jazz… i was so obsessed and I still am about getting into Stanford. I really honestly do think that I would fit in great because I’m not just saying this I am a really passionate, driven, and entrepreneurial person (plus creative haha). The one thing that I lack in is, standardized test scores… I take the ACT for the first time in October but when i took the practice test for the first time, I got a poor score of a 29. Well, I’m working hard to try to get it way up! Hopefully they will see my passions and my hard-work in my application. I have a TON of questions about Stanford, and if i could message you a few or post them that would be amazing! Enjoy Stanford! Hopefully I’ll get to to someday!!
Boston College: no frats or sororities; Catholic, but nobody will try to force any religion on you; compact campus on 3 levels of a hill. Classroom buildings are on middle level. Solid academics…you will learn to write due to humanities-heavy core .
Campus is very safe…surrounded on 3 sides by wealthy suburb of Newton.
Campus straddles Boston/Newton line (Chestnut Hill is a neighborhood, not a city). Easy trolley ride to lively parts of Boston.
Big-time sports include hockey , football, basketball. Almost everybody has friends from high school who attend another of the dozens of other colleges in the area.
Start off by doing some research on your own. Get your hands on some of the good college guide books such as Fiske, Insiders Guide, Princeton Review (check in your school guidance office, your local library, a bookstore etc.), look on each school’s websites, access each school’s school newspaper (can usually get online) to try to get a feel for each option on your list. Class profiles (ex. average GPA, SAT) can be found in the guide books and online for each school either on the website or common data set.
