Could you recommend me some LAC's?

Hey there

Courses: hardest I can take in my school.
College courses: sociology class in a trashy cc. A+
AP: World History (5), Microeconomics (5) both self study.
SAT2's: World History (800), Chemistry (760), Math and USH taking in October, aiming 800.

EC:

summer intern in a legit party in South Korea,
summer intern in a immigrants school in south Korea,
chief editor of a city library newsletter,
prez of two clubs in school,
choir: sang in a national thing in Korea, some prizes,
track: nothing very impressive but some prizes.
NHS etc...

rec: have no idea.. won't be stellar:(?

Financial Aid: needed! My parents would probably pay up to 13000/yr.

here goes the IMPORTANT THINGs

I want to go to a LAC. My goal is to go to a great graduate school (journalism, MBA, or law). I would prefer a moderate/liberal political atmosphere, diversity, and not too much college workload ( oh well I shouldn't say that after saying the graduate school dream..lol)

I'm still not determined whether it matters where a college is located..

I am planning on applying to Amherst and Williams, but I have no idea what "lower" LAC's I'm applying as safties and matches, since there are so many good LAC's that look almost identical to me. i.e. bowdoin, grinnell, Weslyan...

So PLEASE recommend some LAC's you think would be good for me!

Thanks a lot.

What do you like about Amherst and Williams?

You sound like Claremont McKenna material; you should look into the whole Claremont Consortium thing.

You should take a look at Grinnell. They are a highly regarded LAC with very generous merit aid in the midwest. If you go to Grinnell under Colleges on CC, you will see a ‘Why Grinnell’ thread that will give you a lot of information about the school. But I should warn you that the work load is not light. Of course, that is true of any top school.

Rhodes in Memphis offers good merit aid, has great track record with law and business grad admissions. Level of Academic Challenge as measured by the National Survey of Student Engagement is higher than most, BUT it pays off when you get to grad school. I was in the class of 2000 at Rhodes, and both my master’s at Penn State and my doctorate at Memphis have been very easy comparatively speaking.

Holy Cross-very good LAC located near Boston, Holy CROSS has very nice campus. Bucknell is another good LAC.

Do you have a green card? If not, the finances are going to be your biggest hurdle.

"What do you like about Amherst and Williams? "

Frankly I don’t know nothing much about them except that they are the most prestigious ones (Well of course there are reason why they are considered prestigious, but I won’t list them one by one) I can’t visit anywhere so I read many college guide books but my impression was that most top liberal arts colleges are pretty much the same.

Earlham College loves international students, and is one of the top schools in the country at getting its students into their first-choice graduate programs. It, and some other very good LACs, are here: [Colleges That Change Lives](http://www.ctcl.org/)

Look at Davidson, Rice, William & Mary, Wake Forest as well.

While you know about Williams and Amherst, don’t discount the idea of considering other Top 40 LACs which also offer excellent financial aid. Following is a list of excellent LACs and their ability to meet student financial need. Do a little digging and you may also find several that will offer attractive merit scholarships to students of your caliber. Good luck!
