Counselor and the Common App

Does the Counselor see what colleges I have applied to, does he have to approve my applcation or anything?

They probably get to see a list of the colleges you applied to, but I can’t imagine they have to approve of anything, found in your application and written by you. Of course, counselors have to send the required documents (transcripts, school report, etc.) so they need to be willing to submit them on your behalf but nothing more than that.

The counselor is able to see the colleges in your list and whether you are applying ED or RD. Common app does not give a counselor access to your specific entries on the application (like honors, activities or essays) nor does it require a counselor to approve your application (other than for ED where a counselor must certify you have only the one ED application pending.)

Some high schools do have a policy to require students to show their apps to their counselors before the counselor will submit school forms.

If he is able to see the colleges in my list, is he also able to see to which of them I have applied or not? Because I would like to apply to at least one Ivy League uni, but I don’t think he would let me if he knew - he has really low expectations of everyone :(
