I’m looking forward to attending UCSC and i’ve been reading for a while about what each college is about and I think most of it seems pretty clear. I do, however, have a couple questions and I hope you guys can help me clear some confusion:

There seems to be some confusion if the college priorities are RANDOM or FIRST COME first serve. Does anyone know for sure or care to clarify?

I am an Indian(asian indian) male majoring in Computer Science. One of my biggest priorities is to be around indians also in my college since that’s when I feel most comfortable. I am kinda nerdy but I know how to have fun too.

What college would you suggest(seems to be between C9/10 and Crown? Not too sure about the race ratio in Cowell) :)

THANKS for reading, I appreciate your help.

1) Sophomores get priority, then freshmen get what's left. All freshmen are guaranteed on campus housing, but not necessarily the college/room layout they prefer. You rank your top five colleges, and they usually give you one of your top three choices. I got my first choice college (9), but my last choice layout (small triple)... To clarify, it is random. It does not matter when you turn your housing application in, as long as you turn it in by the due date.

2) There are not a whole lot of Indians here, mostly white and asian. That said, Crown/Merrill is definitely the nerdy environment. 9/10 is where I am at, but it is a bit too partyish for me. I spend most of my time at Crown/Merrill, as I am on the nerdy side.

Hey Cali Trumpet, could you look at my post in the topic about Crown? Sorry to butt in, I just want to get the perspective of someone who spends a lot of time there.

Ok so its not based on when i turn it in... that's good i dont feel hurried.

The school i come from is extremely strange. It's about 40% indian, 40% asian, and 20% white. haha its strange

I talked to a friend and apparently people are very friendly so it shouldn't matter much anyways. I just dont wanna stick out in the crowd too much

I would definitely NOT WAIT to make a decision. My son turned in his request at the last possible moment and did not get into the college he requested. He was satisfied with his college, but was kind of disappointed. He still had a wonderful experience at UCSC and will probably go back for grad school after he's finished working abroad.
