Course choices

I'll be a freshman at Rutgers New Brunswick this fall, and I'm having second thoughts about my course choices. The Academic planning and advising day really did not help me as much as I thought it would (the advisors were unable to answer most of my questions) and now I'm really counting on being able to change out of some classes after school starts.

The main problem is that I want to build up my course load to be appealing to other schools, in case I decide to transfer after this or next year. So far these are my courses:

Expository English

Topics in Math

Intro to International Affairs

Does anyone have any comments or advice about this course load or how it might look to prospective transfer schools?

(Cross-posted to the transfer schools thread)

Take Calc 135.. it shows you have a strong courseload for transferring.

Expository writing is required so unless you get a 4 and AP out, you'll have to take it.

Chinese 401 is fine, shows you have a strong schedule.

As for the two intro courses.. they might not transfer

Any reason you want to transfer out before starting school? Just curious

When I first applied for colleges, I really didn't know what I was doing. I chose which colleges to apply (and not to apply) to according to ranking and in the end, I overshot and Rutgers was the only school I was accepted to. In retrospect, I was really lost in the college process.

Now, I want the opportunity to amend my past mistakes. Although I'm entering Rutgers with an open mind, I suspect that there might be a college or university that I would be happier at. It's not necessarily that I want to transfer out before I even attend the school, just that I don't want to find myself in a place that I can't get out from if I do want to leave.

I found out that I got a 5 on the AP english test, so I should be able to opt out of Expose.

Yea you should be out of expos.

One of my friends had a pretty stellar(apparently not so stellar) background and got rejected by Columbia out of high school. She went to Rutgers for a year and got into Columbia as a transfer. You need to take the classes you want and DO WELL in them. It's going to be way harder than high school to get top grades..hence why I think it's so much harder to transfer into a top school than to get accepted out of high school(and because transferring is just inheritely hard). Also, get to know your professors as you will need a couple of them to write you rec's...rec's from teachers from hs might not look too great for a transfer app.
