Course load with Organic Chemistry

Hello all,

Has anyone taken organic chemistry before? If so, was the class difficult (work load)? I have to take organic chemistry in the fall, but I am not sure if I should take other science classes with it. I have two course options below; which one do you think would not be too much to handle along with organic chemistry?

Option 1

Organic chemistry

Cell Biology

Anatomy & Physiology

Film

Option 2

Organic chemistry
Anatomy & physiology
Acting I
Introduction to Literature Study

Ochem is a time intensive class. Not necessarily because the material is conceptually difficult, but because of the volume of new material you’ll be seeing. Ochem also tends to involve a lot of memorization.

What works for person A won’t necessarily work for you. Make your best choice based upon your own work habits, time management skills, long-term course options and preferences.

@wayoutwestmom Thanks for your advice. I learn at a slow pace and am not so great at chemistry, so I think I will have to take a light course load with organic chemistry so I can have more time to practice and study for this class.

o chem varies widely by school. I struggled to get a B at Brown in orgo and then the MCAT orgo was a joke and well below the level required by my coursework. Some schools have orgo for pre meds in contrast to orgo for chem majors while others don’t. You should be asking this question on the school specific section of CC at least although your school’s advising system will be even better advice.

@iwannabe_brown the organic chem course at my school is designed for forensic science majors
