Hey, I’m currently only a sophomore, but I’m looking for feedback regarding the future courses that I have planned. Thank you!
GPA (currently): UW: 4.00 / W: 4.38
AP scores: APES (5), AP Human Geo (5)
Courses:
Freshman Year:
- Honors Freshman English
- Honors Algebra II
- Chemistry
- French III
- PE
- Honors Global Studies/Health
Sophomore Year:
- Honors Sophomore English
- AP Calc BC
- AP Chemistry
- AP Biology
- AP French
- AP World History
Junior Year (future):
- AP Lang
- AP Stats
- AP Physics C
- Honors French Literature
- AP US History
- AP Art History
Senior Year (future):
- AP Lit
- Multivariable Calculus
- AP Gov/Macroecon
- Comp Civics
- PE: Lifetime Fitness
- undecided
A few questions:
- My junior and senior year courses aren’t as rigorous as the courses I’m taking this year; will that affect my application?
- Does it look bad if I don’t have a language/science all four years?
How did you go from Algebra2 to Calc BC?
Are you seriously taking AP Bio and AP Chem together?
(Thus creating an issue for what to take senior year?)
Can you take MV junior year (for continuity as calculus skills atrophy quickly)
and if you do so, do you have a math class to take beside AP Stats senior
year (dual enrollment)?
Other than that, your JR year schedule sounds exhausting but at least it balances subjects well. You could take a regular Art class and leave AP Art History for senior year 'for “undecided”). This way you’d have two years of art and AP Art History would thus be part of a continuity of interest rather than a one-shot.
BTW, junior year in particular would be quite rigorous.
My recommendations:
Junior Year
- AP Lang
- AP Stats
- AP Physics C
- Honors French Literature
- AP US History
- Art
Senior Year
- AP Lit
- Multivariable Calculus
- AP Gov/Macroecon
- Comp Civics
- Honors Science class (or dual enrollment class?)
- AP Art History
OR
Junior Year
- AP Lang
- MV Calculus
- AP Physics C
- Honors French Literature
- AP US History
- Art
Senior Year
- AP Lit
- Dual Enrollment Math (Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, College Statistics…)
- AP Gov/Macroecon
- Comp Civics
- Honors Science class (or dual enrollment class?)
- AP Art History
@MYOS1634 Thank you for the reply!
I took precalc online via AoPS, since precalc at my school is basically just review of Algebra II first semester and then a few new concepts second semester.
Yeah I’m currently in both AP Bio and AP Chem (I took Bio the summer before freshman year and chem during freshman year).
Multivariable is open to juniors, but I wanted a lighter math course since AP Physics is the hardest course at my school. I see what you’re saying, though, and AP Stats doesn’t fit with course progression. Community college offers Linear Algebra.
oh god Art I went with Art History because I wanted to avoid actually drawing/making stuff haha
Schedules:
I’m stuck with PE senior year because I need 2 years of PE (can’t waive second year because I don’t play any sports and can’t take PE online because district policy currently is that it doesn’t accept any outside courses for credit)
If I didn’t take a science course, would it count against me? I’m honestly not that interested in science.
I wouldn’t take AP Bio and AP Chem together, especially as a sophomore. Those two together I’ve heard are awful.
Moot point. OP is a current sophomore.
No. You have enough science credits. I would have spaced them out better instead of front loading, but what’s done is done. I would follow @MYOS1634 's second suggestion, just swapping out the science with another course of your choosing.
