Course Question: ENG-W 131

Hi,

Quick question here, does anyone know about the rigor of the class ENG-W 131? I was looking at the grade distributions and it didn’t seem too tough a class and I took AP Literature in high school and I did reasonably well(B+) so I was just confused about the tough rep I saw it getting on other forums.

Thanks!

My D took it the class her senior year of HS and I think got a B+ and she also had taken AP Lit. I do know that several others who took the class with her really struggled with it and she attributed it to them not putting in the effort. College classes are harder than HS classes and I think some people struggle to realize that in their first semester and classes they may not have had to work too hard in before require more effort at the college level. If you’ve taken AP Lit I would think you will find the class a bit easier than someone who hasn’t taken harder English classes in HS.

Grade distribution wise, ENG-W 170 may be a better option.

Did you take the AP test for Lit?

@iubaccounting Yes, I did and I got a 3. So not an amazing score but not too bad either

For what its worth, my D got a 3 as well. She did fine with W-131

I was just asking about the score in case you got a 4 or 5 and didn’t have to take W131. I also got a 3 on Lit several years ago. I think the English AP tests are pretty subjective and dumb.
