I was wondering if incoming freshman are placed in honors or harder classes if they have better grades, for example if i maintain a 4.0 then i will go into tougher classes than someone who got admitted with a 3.5? Thanks for the info. This is arts + science by the way

any insight?

No. You pick your classes and professors; you aren’t “put” into any class. With good grades, you can become a College Scholar, which has a few perks, but there aren’t “honors” versions of classes. 4.0s will be right in there with the 2.0s.

^^Actually, I think college scholars get access to a number of different “honors” seminars per semester, which are capped at sixteen students each. Some of the ones this past semester, for example, were a philosophy seminar on bioethics, as well as a political science seminar on political advertising. They are essentially “honors” classes for those in the college scholars program, but you don’t have to sign up for them if the regular curriculum interests you more.

There are honors seminars, but they’re just random cool elective classes available college scholars. They aren’t more difficult than a normal class or an upgraded “honors” version of some other class offered on campus.

I think the angle to consider is getting things like a double major accomplished or how to get minors or certificates for focused areas of study.
Those College Scholar classes are opportunities to earn points for an Honors Diploma at Vanderbilt. You have to earn good grades in them in a list of categories to get this diploma.
All Vandy students can aim for things like Magna Cum Laude.

Some Vandy College Scholars don’t bother with all the honors points and the College Scholar seminars. They prefer designing their own pathways or perhaps prefer lab sciences to discussion small classes.

ALL Vandy students can earn Honors in their Majors. Most disciplines offer a pathway for Honors in your major Department–Honors in your major will likely require courses in a breadth of sub categories and at least one independent study
It is important to note that these courses
