It’s our favorite time of the year - course selection!
I am a junior, choosing classes for senior year. I’m currently in Calc AB, and I’m debating on Calc BC or AP Stats.
Here’s why I’m stuck:
I know that the first semester of Calc BC is a review of Calc AB, so it should be an easy A
However, is doing BC even worth it if you’ve done AB? I’ve already got calc background from AB
I haven’t done any Stats course yet
any suggestions/tips will help!
good luck for next year!
BC is certainly more rigorous and will likely look better on a college application. If you are going into any type of STEM field, you will certainly need the material in BC. It’s absolutely “worth” taking.
If your school requires AB before BC, hopefully it’s like ours where they blow through the “repeat” material in about 5 weeks.
Non-STEM majors that require Stats typically will require a Calc-based Stats course, which may have BC as a pre-req anyway.
Statistics is an important topic for most people to know (they’d make better decisions in life…), but I’d recommend BC in most situations. Your intended major, goals, etc., would be required to be more specific.
Some schools that have the course sequence of AB then BC make BC a one semester course. Or add additional subjects to make it a full year. If you are considering a STEM major then BC is a good idea.
