Hey everyone,
Because I got accepted into Honors English late, I now have scheduling conflicts, and I want to hear more opinions before I talk to my school.
I have to pick one of the following sets of classes to add to my schedule:
- [current schedule] English, Physics, Chinese Politics/Current Events in the Media (language course), AP Computer Science
- Honors English, AP Computer Science, other Chinese courses (not too interested in those) or another language
- Honors English, Chinese Politics & Current Events, another elective
I am currently taking one more class than most other students because I applied for it, but with options 2 and 3, I will give that up. (AP CS and Physics are considered electives.)
For your reference, here are my unaffected classes:
Honors History
Honors Alg II
Chemistry
Also, I intend to go into business or computer science in college. Is H English worth dropping for? H English is not much harder than the regular class; however, I think the GCs are convinced that it’s rigorous.
Thanks for your input!
Personally, I would keep your schedule as it is (option #1). Depending on the colleges that you’re planning on applying to, a rigorous course schedule with as many classes as possible is key. No, I definitely would not drop Honors English. You said that it is not that much harder than regular English; keeping Honors English will help with the rigor. I wouldn’t pick option #2. You said that you weren’t interested in the other Chinese courses, and I wouldn’t take classes that I wasn’t interested in. If you end up choosing option #2, you might be miserable in that class. I wouldn’t pick option #3 because it doesn’t have the rigor like option #1. You also said that you want to either go into computer science or business in college. Option #3 doesn’t have APCS as an option, so I wouldn’t take it. Colleges like students taking classes that are somewhat related to their majors, and classes that show rigor. Option #1 has both, so I would stick with the schedule that you have. If you want to switch schedules, then I would pick option #2.
I would keep the first one.
Just to hammer it in, option 1 is the best schedule by far.
