Well, I may have chosen the wrong thread ( I am new to CC), sorry if I did.
II know that getting a degree in MIT after you are selected is not easy. Yet I know of people who have done a triple major there. I wanted to ask wether I should do a triple major ( Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics) or a double major with physics as minor. How much difference would it make and how much effort would I have to put in. All this not only goes for MIT but any univ I get in. I am an international student from India. Also, after i complete my undergraduate course, how long does it take to get the postgraduate degree.
Thanks a lot for your time,
Regards,
Abhishek

MIT does not award triple majors. If you take all the classes for three majors, you will need to pick two (or one) for your diploma.

Well, I know someone who as done a triple major there

MIT stopped awarding triple majors in 2000. You may know an old alum, or you may know someone who completed all the classes for a triple major. I am just stating that you will not be awarded a triple major.

I get your point!
However, is it possible to be “awarded” 2 majors and one minor???
Thanks
And yes, i was talking about an old alum

One more doubt, certainly not very related to the thread but…
Being an international student how am I supposed to arrange an interview and when?
Thanks

You can declare two majors and a minor, but that is tough (if the majors/minor are relatively disjoint) and I don’t know anyone who has done that. I know several double majors, many of them 18/6 or 18/8.

Generally, if you are unable to find an interviewer in your area, or are otherwise unable to interview, you can state so in your application.

You can, at max, get 2 majors and 2 minors. That said, most prefrosh who think they will double major ultimately don’t, because they don’t figure out how hard MIT is (or how they may have better things to do) until they get here

There are some joint majors that you may be interested in. Course 18-C is a single major called “Mathematics with Computer Science”. You can also take a flexible version of physics that allows you to pick a non-physics focus.

When you apply, you will be assigned an interviewer or the interview will be waived.

Thanks a lor Piper! and MITer
