Hi I’m a covenant scholar. I’ve read the website but i was wondering if any current scholars could tell me more about it. Such as do you receive monthly checks to buy personal things? Are work studies required? And your experience has a covenant scholar .
Thanks
Bump
Hey, I’m a current Covenant scholar! You get the money one time one-two weeks before the start of every semester! And being a Covenant scholar is not just about the financial aid as well; they have so many resources to really make sure that you succeed here. Really loved my experience so far here in UNC, and this scholarship has played a big role.
@laurencewithau if the check covers personal expenses, then what does the work study cover?
@MaybeUNC2022 it’s really just another source of extra income. Also if you’re work-study, the departments here are very flexible with your class schedule so it’s convenient for you.
@laurencewithau so the money we receive from the work study is for us to be used for personal use and not to the school ?
@breakfeastclub1234567890 yes, it goes 100% to your bank account that you set with the school.
Are books and supplies covered?
@laurencewithau Food and dorms are covered as well correct? What meal plan do you receive? And how much was the laptop grant? Also was there anything you had to pay for or is it truly a full ride scholarship because of the grants and covenant Carolina?
Hi! I’m also a covenant scholar and had many of your same questions. For starters, it’s only a ‘full ride’ if your EFC is 0. If not, your family has to cover that cost. You’re given enough for the regular meal plan and dorms, as well. Have you gone to Admitted Students day yet? I would take a trip to the Covenant Office. They have a financial advisor there who can break down EVERYTHING for you. They’re super sweet!! It really helped me, because I was just as in shock as you probably are. Hope this helps!
@UNCCH2022 is there time during admitted students day where a covenant advisor comes to speak to us?
Admitted Students Day has a huge ‘free roam’ section where you explore campus and decide what you would like to do- that’ll be your time. They don’t initiate conversation with you, you’ll have to go find them on your own. Hope this was able to help! Congrats on getting into UNC and I look forward to meeting another fellow covenant scholar!!
When will we be notified of a laptop grant?
@UNCCH2022
at unc admitted students day, did your parents have to stay with you the whole time? Or are they separated from you?
@theboyoverthere For laptop grants, it depends honestly but it should definitely be notified by the time first-year orientations come around for the summer and first-year orientation by the way is mandatory for all first-years; it is one of the things on the checklist before you come here that you must complete.
@breakfastclub1234567890 Covenant scholar is truly a full-ride if your EFC (expected family contribution) is $0. Mines was but it can vary. Also with the meal plan, they have different ones but I got the most basic one. I recommend you checking on dining.unc.edu, as they should break it down for you. And yes, the dorm is covered too!
@theboyoverthere check your connect Carolina portal. My son received a full laptop grant, but we haven’t yet received an email about it. It was listed in the general “to do” list. If you were accepted ea then it should be there. Also, he isn’t a Carolina covenant student and still received the full grant.
I got it. Thank you!
