COVID-19 hitting too close to home?

And ok, since its on the news, this is my friend’s BIL -https://www.wcpo.com/news/coronavirus/jewish-hospitals-first-covid-19-patient-got-released-friday-after-seven-weeks-there

Wonderful news!

@Sue22 - How is your mom?

@jym626 - better, though the antibiotics are doing a job on her digestive system. We still don’t have the coronavirus test results. I expect them to come back negative. My parents have been strictly isolating. My best guess is that the pneumonia is from lack of movement. They’ve been stuck in a two bedroom condo for six weeks. Until today it wasn’t even nice enough for them to go out on walks, so mom has been extremely sedentary and sleeping more than usual. If the test does come back positive I think they’ll be in big trouble. Thanks for asking.

@Sue22, crossing fingers that your mom comes back negative.

Talked to my dad tonight – my aunt is ten days into being positive and has no significant symptoms. Her 91st birthday is in a few days. She’s a tough cookie.

A close friend’s older brother is in the ICU. They just put him on a ventilator. :frowning: He is probably around 60, disabled. He lives in a facility in southern Maine that had an outbreak.

I am so sorry, @ChoatieMom. May your happy memories comfort you and your family at this tough time.

Praying for your mom, @Sue22. Praying for your aunt, @CountingDown. Praying for your friend’s brother, @MaineLonghorn.

@jym626, That is a heartwarming story. Thanks!

My D and SIL are treating many COVID-19 patients. I worry every day. SIL was exposed by partners who tested positive so he was tested. His test was negative, but he was still quarantined. He has been back to work for about a month. It will be a miracle if they stay COVID-19-free. Their hospital system has not tested for COVID-19 unless the patient needs to be admitted. Supposedly this was to change, and all suspected positive patients would get a test. D worked today, so I will ask her if things have changed. **D says there is more testing - finally - but still not enough. And they are still reusing their masks… ridiculous!

@hrh19 thank you. My friend’s brother is no better or worse today. It’s a waiting game.

Thank you @hrh19. It looks like we’ve dodged a bullet. Mom has tested negative for Covid-19 so she’s just dealing with garden variety pneumonia, which is challenging enough. I’m keeping all of you who have friends or relatives with the virus in my thoughts.

@hrh19 – Thanks! My aunt’s 91st birthday was yesterday (5/6). My dad called her and had a chat. She seems ok, didn’t say much about COVID, but was eagerly awaiting her lunch. She’s now two weeks out from the positive test.

Well shoot. My 87 year old aunt has Covid. It was a shock, as she’s asymptomatic but she was tested because her retirement home has so many cases. Her attitude is great but it’s scary as heck for the rest of us because we’re not ready to lose her. Not to this. We have no idea how long she’s had it. We’re hoping she stays asymptomatic.

Crossing my fingers for Aunt Calla.

Praying for your aunt, @calla1. I hope she stays asymptomatic.

This COVID-19 is the worst!

I posted the update about my son on the other thread - not thinking about this one at the time.

In short, he went there for the “free” test (having called first), didn’t get it, but got brought into the ER for a chest xray, etc, got told he likely had it (but nothing official) and sent home with directions.

The free test has now cost him in excess of 2K and he still doesn’t have the Dr bills, just the hospital bills.

AND, weeks after having possibly had it and recovered he still has lung issues. He tells us if he does nothing then it feels like it’s getting better by the day, but as soon as he starts to do something like weeding his yard or spending multiple hours at his job (a speaking internet job) it gets to him quickly and lasts making him think there’s no difference.

BIL tells us he knows runners - race runners - who have had it, recovered, and now can no longer run at all.

I guess we’re waiting to see if this ends up as permanent now or if recovery is very slow. If permanent, it will likely affect my lad’s ability to dive (scuba). He hasn’t even reached 30 years old yet.

@Creekland — so sorry to read of your lad’s struggles and medical bills for “free” test he wasn’t given. Really sad to hear of so many having long lasting effects from C19. Hope they eventually go away, but too early to know for sure.

Three friends in my town heard today they are positive, having taken tests three days ago. One other 80 year old healthy family friend died today of covid. This three day wait is just not cutting it.

I’m so sorry for your loss,@silverpurple.

Oh, @silverpurple, I am so sorry.

I’m very sorry @silverpurple.
