COVID-19 hitting too close to home?

Oops

My D24 is positive. :frowning:

After a year of basically keeping her locked up like Rapunzel, I relented and let her get together with two friends, masked indoors on Friday evening. A poor choice, but I did it knowing it was a risk.

Friend #1 woke up unwell on Saturday, and got a positive test result on Monday. My D and other friend both started exhibiting symptoms on Tuesday. Friend’s mom took her (friend) for a rapid test on Tuesday, which came back negative. I took D24 for a regular pcr on Tuesday and got positive results yesterday. It is hard for me to believe her friend doesn’t have it, that she just tested too early (they have all the same symptoms - fever, sore throat, headache and dry cough), but her mom is convinced it’s just allergies

Anyway, just keeping her isolated in her room/bathroom 24/7 and wearing a double mask when I go in there to bring her drinks/meds. Cancelled the passover seder we were going to have with my vaccinated parents and delayed D20’s planned visit back home for now. Hoping she continues to have somewhat mild symptoms and is on the mend sooner than later.H is fully-vaccinated and I’m a couple of weeks out from my first dose. Definitely not as panicked as I would have been if this happened six weeks ago.

Argh. Hugs. Rapid antigen tests are awful, bad, simply terrible when it comes to Covid diagnosis. Hope your daughter recovers quickly. :crossed_fingers:

Ugh! I am so sorry. And double ugh to friend’s mom. Those antigen tests are so unreliable. I hope she doesn’t let her out and about in society with her “allergies.”

Best wishes to your D and family

Dear friend got a call to have her daughter tested ~ she was positive. Where was she exposed? She was exposed at her high school while taking her ACT. School is not ‘in person’ yet, but was open for testing.

Both our elementary school and high school are closed (again) due to too many positive tests.

I’m really looking forward to the vaccine returning life to normal.

Michigan is not doing well, we are seeing a big increase in cases.

1/3 of the cases are from school age people, they are seeing a surge in school sports teams.

Michigan was pretty locked down this winter and school sports were suspended. Now our restaurants are opening, our movie theaters are opening, sports are back. With that a predictable increase in cases.

My rural area of northern Michigan was not very hard hit, until now. It will get everywhere eventually, and now I guess it’s my county’s turn. :pensive:

I am in southeast Michigan, and it’s scary how quickly cases are rising. It’s to be expected as things open up, and hopefully we are in a good place in terms of being able to handle hospitalizations. But I don’t want it, and no one in my family wants it. So I continue to double mask and keep my distance … and I don’t eat at restaurants.

My local area is “red” on the map again- a small city and a small town on the coast.

Just found out that a good friend has been hospitalized with Covid. He got his first vaccine a week ago, and he thought that his symptoms were from that. Unfortunately, he actually had Covid, and although he doesn’t have any underlying conditions, he took a turn for the worse and is in the hospital. I hope that things turn around quickly for him.

its weird that in the past week I know of three people who have it. One got it from their teenager, who got it from their school sports team. (mild cases) The other, I dont know, but they have it pretty bad, and are a bit older with immune issues. keeping fingers crossed. I asked if they just had not had a chance to get vaccinated and was told that they were not sold on the vaccines, and then it hit. The wife doesnt have it yet, but hopefully that will change her mind on getting vaccinated.

My SIL and BIL both have it. He got his first shot 10 days ago and woke up the next day with symptoms - rode them out for a while thinking it was a reaction to the vaccine. Wasn’t getting better and then my SIL came down with symptoms. She tested positive Tuesday. My BIL had to be hospitalized yesterday. He’s been given oxygen and they are talking about remdesivir. He’s not in the best of health to begin with (liver issues and high blood pressure). Meanwhile my SIL is riding it out at home, isolating from her kids (who are awaiting test results). It’s a terrible situation :frowning:

Our older/elderly (probably 80s) neighbor has come down with it. She’s been having a hard time with her health over the past year or two, so time will tell. Several of us on the road have told them we’d help them getting anything they need, but yesterday H saw her husband drive off for something, then return. It’s a bit aggravating that he would leave for anything TBH. He must not be making the connection that he’s been exposed too and could transmit it to others.

When we asked where they could have gotten it from it seems the only options are doctor’s offices, the grocery store, pharmacy, or perhaps from their son on one of his visits. I know I went to the grocery store yesterday and saw a fair number of people without masks and even more wearing them under their nose. I’m glad I’ve had my first vax and will be even more glad after Saturday when I get my second.

A former co-worker passed away this week. I liked her a lot and hated to see her leave for another job. She was 65 and had custody of her GC whom she raised essentially from birth. She was a widow, so if someone else doesn’t step up to the plate, I assume the child (13-14ish) will be placed into the system. Tragic.

No idea how this post ended here. Sorry!

Presume you wanted this on the home decor thread, unless this is a play on words for “hitting”!

I now have two friends in the hospital with Covid. Both had their first vaccines right before finding out they had Covid, and both initially thought it was a reaction to the vaccine. Covid, including Covid variants, is raging here now that the restrictions have been eased. We are not out of the woods, and I absolutely will not be letting my guard down any time soon.

I keep wondering if people are catching COVID at their vaccination appointments.

The clinic I went to was extremely well run, as was the one my H went to. Temp check on the way in, monitoring of the line to ensure social distance, mandatory masking, and social distancing in the after-vaccine waiting area.

No, it is not likely. That’s not a reason to not get vaccinated.
