My parents may not be able to attend CPW due to conflicts. Can someone fill me in on what is covered during the parent sessions listed below?

1.Parent Welcome on Thursday night at 7:30 pm.
2.Parent Reception with Parent Connectors and Alumni on Friday night at 5:00 pm in Walker Memorial.
3.Insight for Parents by Parents is Saturday morning at 9:00 am in room 10-250. A panel of current MIT parents will be on hand to share their insights and answer your questions.

My parents are primarily interested in #3 and the insights shared.

Any parent who has attended the event, please share.

I did not attend CPW. I don’t think you need your parents to help you decide. It should be your sole decision. I attended the moving-in weekend. I enjoyed the activities for parents and had the opportunity to talk to other parents.

If your parents can’t make it to CPW they shouldn’t worry. If you have been accepted EA your parents should join the MIT Parents of the class 2018 FB page. They will find there very helpful parents to talk with about any questions or worries they may have. It’s an invaluable resource! You on the other hand, if you can make it to CPW should definitely go!

Usually, this is a panel of parents that answer various questions posed from the audience, so it differs each time, but some of the questions addressed include academic rigor, balancing academics with sports, financial aid questions, etc. Also, a similar session is held every year in October during Family Weekend, so they might be able to attend then. But as UglyMom posted above, they can get some great answers to any questions by posting on Class of 2018 FB page. Hope that you attend CPW in any event – prospective students are the real stars during the weekend!

I think the move-in reception days for parents lasted longer than a weekend. I was there from Friday night to end of Tuesday (freshmen convocation ceremony day, a really big event, more memorable than the graduation day). There were several sessions for information, sightseeing, social gathering,… for parents throughout that period. Activities for parents were separated from the ones for students.

My daughter is a Junior. I attended CPW with her and also orientation during move in. The sessions were more varied and more detailed during CPW but very similar during both weekends, so if you choose MIT your parents could come for orientatation. I’ve also been to several Famiy Weekends and they are more about observing classes and entertainment but there are some info sessions for parents similar to those at CPW and orientation.
