CR advice

Hello, I am currently struggling to study for the SAT. Personally I think getting a good score in Math/Writing section is something achievable (I mean how many times are you going to get the same math problem wrong), and I have seen some improvements in my Math/Writing but…Critical thinking I have gone through a lot of “guides” and “tips” about this section but I find it very difficult. English is not my first language,(I have been speaking english for the past 5 years), So I find it very challenging to understand the passage given, every time I take the CR test it feels like a loop, same results every time and it brings down my confidence level…
I think the problem is about understanding the passage, I would truly appreciate it if you guide me, idk if I’m doing something wrong here.

OMG I am literally in the exact same position

Just read a lot in your free time. Books, newspapers, magazines, etc. It goes a long way! I’ve read a lot for fun throughout my life and barely study for the English section, and got 750 when I took it for the first time in January.

Thanks for responding catsss, I have question… What kind of reading ? I believe the content the SAT asks for is very specific, not something you would read on a normal newspaper or magazine. So can you refer me to some of these books that you found helpful for your SAT?

I agree about just reading a lot in your free time. There isn’t a specific book I would recommend reading bt just read books I think more so than newspapers and magazines. Personally, I didn’t study at all for the SAT and was able to score a 700 on CR the first time I took it. As someone who doesn’t speak English as a first language, I think this could help you tremendously because the more you read and just understand the way that things are written, the better your chances are improving your score. Good luck!

Thanks for replying Coll5678, yea I certainly should start reading more…

Don’t worry. Practice makes perfect.
Try to use 1 or 2 strategies in this post every time you practice: http://blog.prepscholar.com/how-to-get-800-on-sat-reading-10-strategies-by-a-perfect-scorer.
It’s not my blog, but I like what they say, so hope that help.
Also, like people said above, read a lot, and read in all the types of passages tested. (Minimum 4 Nytimes articles per day in Sciences, Literature, etc)
Best wishes to you. We will help you. Just ask.
