Crazy stuff people have done to get into MIT?

Just wondering, over the years some people must have done some CRAZY things to "show their interest" or the likes in order to get into MIT. Maybe writing a 20-page ballad or writing "MIT" with atoms or something. Anyone have stories like these?

I’ve heard of some gimmicks, but they didn’t get in.

You know, there were those people that actually applied. And believe it or not, the gimmick worked!

This dude wrote a crazy song:
[MIT Admissions | Blog Entry: “Complementary in Kinetic Typography”](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/apply/the_freshman_application/complementary_in_kinetic_typog.shtml)

? Are you defining applying as a gimmick itself? If so, our definitions are quite different O.O

My original intent was to say that this question has an inherent confirmation bias attached to it. While a small population will do something crazy on their apps and get into MIT, others will do crazy things and not get in. I’ve heard a lot more of the second, and someone looking for these stories should keep that in mind.
