Creating a Directing Portfolio

I'm a high school senior who will be applying for the directing programs (theatre) at various schools this year. I have to create a portfolio, and I was wondering how to go about doing this. I've directed two shows during high school and have pictures/videos from them, and I've also done a "theoretical staging" of sorts of another show - it was basically just a photoshoot with costumes and limited, cheap sets in my living room that showed what I'd want it to look like. In addition to directing, I've also done some acting and tech work on other shows.

So can I just take pictures/videos/notes from these shows and that will be my portfolio? Does it have to be in anything special (for example, those fancy art portfolios you see) or organized in anyway? And can I use things from shows that I didn't direct but was a part of? Can I also put plays that I've written in this portfolio?

Another thing - do you think that the staging photoshoot I did would be okay to put in? It looks a bit amateurish because of the fact that it's in my living room and the cheapness of the sets (we had to make them all from whatever we could), but gets my ideas across very well.

Thank you very much, and sorry if some of the questions are kind of stupid, I'm just a bit confused.
