Creationism?

I was wondering if the strongly religious nature of Notre Dame affects the teaching of the sciences, especially whether creationism/intelligent design/whatever is taught in biology classes?

The motto the Biology department chose for the floor of Jordan is “Nothing In Biology Makes Sense Except In Light Of Evolution”. I don’t think I knew any creationists at ND.

The official stance of the Catholic Church is aligned with scientific truth. Notre Dame is no different.

Haha, don’t worry. Notre Dame science classes teach science, simple as that. As PCB said, Catholicism and evolutionary theory get along just fine.

It’s a shame that the stigma the Bible-belters and their cult of anti-intellectualism have (deservedly) earned for themselves somehow casts a shadow in academia over the great intellectual tradition associated with the Catholic Church. It’s sad that anyone should even have to ask if an accredited university teaches legitimate science or not. Fortunately, Catholicism is not the same thing as evangelical Protestantism and embraces both faith and reason.

I did know one creationist at ND. But she was a Southern Baptist… And thankfully, she did change her views on the subject by the time she graduated.

Thanks guys! I really like Notre Dame, but this was worrying me, so that’s a big relief.
