What're the opportunities for creative writers at UMich like? I'm interested in information about creative writing classes, on-campus organizations and litmags, among other things.

My D has been taking Creative Writing courses in the RC (Residential College) and has loved them. The classes are small and you may be invited to have one-on-one tutorials with the professor once a week. Literature courses are also required for the major and the RC offers some wonderful ones. The RC also publishes it’s own literary magazine.

I understand that the LSA Creative Writing courses are also good, but my D hasn’t taken one yet (she plans to). I believe there are several other literary magazines you can submit your work to, as well as competitions, etc. My D was also selected to do readings of her work last year by the university. There are many opportunities for writers to participate in at U Mich. I also remember something about the program at U Mich being ranked #8 in the country for Creative Writing, not that rankings mean that much…but shows you that the school has a good reputation for it.
