credit question

i got a 5 in ap bio, and am most probably applying the credit or opt out of intro to bio courses, which gives me 8 credits automatically.

does this mean i can only take 15credits (normal course load)-8 credits (from bio= leaving me with only 7 credits?

im quite confused on this

No, you replace those 8 credits with something else. You must take a minimum of 12 credits each semester no matter how much AP credit you have.

You take a normal courseload and then your final semester you may not need any classes, or you can take whatever you'd like because you've already fulfilled your degree requirements.

Hmmm, I'm still pretty confused about how helpful AP credit is for me. To the best of my knowledge I earned 18 credits. I was told, however, that I had to take 18 university credits in addition to my Hotel School core requirements regardless of what I had. So, any current students out there, does AP credit actually help lighten the courseload of a hotelie?

Nobody cares about hotelies.

for the most part I think APs can either place you out of intros, or fulfill requirements (like writing seminars, or distribution requirements) but you still have to take credits in place of the ones you get to skip.

How I THINK 2 of my scores will affect me:
I placed out of MATH 111 into 112 or 122 with my score on AB.
also, I have credit for US history so I have to take 1 less course in the humanities distribution (presuming it's not my major), but I still have to take all the necessary credits for the math/social science/social studies distribution requirement or w/e it is. In other words I filled the history requirement, but I have to take some credit outside my major in it's place.

I THINK that's how it works I could be totally wrong.

Speak for yourself Epoch_Dreams. Many people care about Hotelies. Show others some respect if you want others to respect you.

I was personally offended by one of Cornell2009Hotelie's previous posts (on a different thread). It was disrespectful to me. I just wanted to get even. That's why I made the nasty comment.

Next time, resolve the issue with Hotelie via PM. Hotelie is very reasonable, I am sure you can resolve the issue without resorting to personal attacks.

I don't even recognize your username. I find it unlikely that I could have said something to "personally offend" you if you didn't contact me in any way. And I certainly was not disrespectful to you personally.

Sparticus is right on the dime. The only thing is that even though you got AP credit for AP US history, I believe that you still have to fulfill your HA requirement in CAS. AP US doesn't substitute the distribution requirement for HA. No AP exam does substitute the 5 categories in CAS which are KCM, SBA, HA, LA and CA. However, if you intend to be an American Studies Major your 5 for AP US History can substitute HIST 154. That would mean that you only need to take 1 course in Amer. Studies to become a American Studies major in freshman year or any year in general. I'm trying to find out what AP US History can do for me as a prospective history major... I'm a bit upset about this AP credit thing very much as I probably took AP exams without getting credit. It's alright though :).

APs also show you can do high level work while still in HS though, so even if you don't get credit, they still helped your college application. The test scores compare you with kids around the country.
