critical reading strategy

ive been studying critical reading for about two months and i dont see big improvements. i just wanted to ask, what would be the most effective strategy for those who get high 400s to low 500s?
should read the passage first or underline the line referenced portions and do the questions while reading?
thanks in advance :)

If your taking the test tomorrow: do questions as you go, helps you focus. Save main idea questions till the end. Look at the roots of words on the sentence completion (for example, ex=out, as in expurgate, remove). And read this if you haven’t already,

For more long term prep: read “direct hits” SAT vocab, get used to reading to news articles roughly the same length as the CR passages. (I just read Huff post on my phone)
