critical reading vocab trends

I'm deciding whether to prepare for the CR vocab.

I usually miss ~1 on the reading passages, and 2-3 on the vocab. I've been using the blue book, and I've noticed something strange about the difficulty levels. For the first two sections, I usually don't miss any vocab. However, on the last three questions of the last section, a bunch of obscure vocabulary pops up. On the answers, however, only one of the last three questions is rated as hard.

Is this just me, or is this a typical trend? What can I do to prepare for this obscure vocabulary? I've seen people recommending direct hits. I'm pretty good at memorizing vocab, so it wouldn't be a huge waste of time I think (the difference between -4 and -1 is like 40 points?)

Sadly, there are often times when fairly obscure vocab words are placed on the test. Sometimes even in passage questions too if the first few vocab questions are easier.
