How crowded is the campus with so many students?

“Crowded” is subjective. Compared to a Tokyo subway car at rush hour, USC is desolate. Compared to the farm fields of southern Minnesota it’s a teeming mass of humanity.

All of SC’s students are not on the University Park campus at one time. Many are studying abroad. Keck students are at the medical campus and some students are doing research on Catalina Island.

Have you visited other large universities in an urban setting?

I’m going to be a PhD student next year but when they interviewed and toured me in late January, I noticed the University Park Campus was not very crowded for such a big school. The best way I could describe it, is walking along the wide paths, we could definitely zig zag without bumping into anyone. There was some improv thing going on on the grass near Tommy Trojan and a huge crowd was watching, that was kind of cool. On the weekends however the students completely seem to disappear. The campus looks empty.

There’s a Tommy Trojan cam that’s 24/7. You can watch it to get an idea.

The campus center is pretty crowded midday - early afternoon on every weekday. Also expect a lot of crowd when moving in between classes. I’m from Hong Kong (which is ridiculously crowded) and I’d say UPC on a typical weekday around 11am - 2pm and the Row on a Thursday night are pretty crowded even by Hong Kong standards, especially since a good portion of the students use bikes/longboards to get around campus.
