CS 61A or 61AS?

Could anyone who has had experienced with both of these classes or knowledge of how they work possibly give some input of their experience with these classes? Also, does anyone know how Kamil is, since he seems to be teaching 61A for the first time.

Probably most students took one or the other.

Here is a description of the differences: [What’s Going On with 61A?](http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/~bh/61a.html)

CS61AS is chill. Quizzes are taken from Midterms, and as long as you discipline yourself and keep atop of the reading, lectures (if you decide to view them), and homework, you’ll get a good grade.

Did you find 61AS useful? I’m more interested in 61A because it’s being taught in Python, but I know it won’t exactly be all that great on my grade. But for future CS purposes, I also feel 61A would better prepare me…

CS61A/AS isn’t about learning the language. It’s about learning the concepts. You could easily pick up Python on your free time.

Does anyone have anything to say about Kamil? I can’t find much about him.

To go off lucyan, all programming languages have the same basic framework. If you really understand what’s going on in 61as or 61a, you should be able to pick up any programming language in a snap. (I did C++ 4 years ago, and learning python (up to the same level as I knew C++) took all of 2 days…though I’m still working out the little python quirks and syntax).

SICP with Scheme is classic and I learned CS concepts so much better and more thoroughly in 61A with that book (which I enjoyed reading, which is something I can’t say about most CS books I’ve read) when I took it 2 years ago as a freshman than I did in AP Comp Sci in high school in Java. As much as I love python they should have never changed the course imo lol.
