CS Chances

Hey there CC! I’m applying for college as class of 2024 for CS

I come from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont and its ranked #76 in the US for highschools

unweighted GPA: 3.19
weighted GPA: 3.66

SAT: 1480

AP tests taken: APCS-4

AP Classes taken: APCS, AP Stats, AP Physics 1, AP Calc AB

EC’s:
Tennis captain for 2 years.
varsity tennis for all 4 yrs
undefeated in league for 3 years
sneaker reselling
make nearly 500000 in 4 years of high school
job: teach tennis for a private tennis academy for sophomore and junior summer/part of school year
placed in hackathons a few times

got recommendation letters from precalc teacher and apcs teacher. also got a recommendation letter from boss at work

OOS(California)/Indonesian

i know my stats are pretty bad but I just want a realistic idea of my chances

So they only look at unweighted. Unless your trying to play tennis and your very talented then no. LSA is 3.9 unweighted with 32-35 act and engineering is 3.9 with 34 Act.

Get that GPA up if you really want a shot. It’s only 2020 now. Get the help you need and report back in two years.

you can’t apply to specific majors at umich; u can only apply for specific schools. you can major in CS from both the college of engineering and the college of literature, science, and arts. LSA generally has lower medians, but CS-LSA has a LOT of requirements, so i’d recommend applying to LSA and transferring to engineering if you get in.

OOS is a bit ? because if really is a lot harder to get in, i think (im in state lmao. RIP oos kids). i can’t speak for the sports because while i did have extracurriculars (music, mostly), they weren’t that many. i also had a thick stack of AP credit and OP SAT’s, but on GOD I am begging yall high schoolers to stop caring about those. they literally evaporate once you get into college. anyway whatever

3.19 is indeed a bit low for a GPA, so i’d try to get that up. but please don’t take classes you hate because you need all the personality you can get for your application essays.

@ethansu. No.

GPA at Michigan lsa is 3.9 unweighted with 32-35 Act. Engineering is 3.9 with 34 act avg

They only use unweighted scores. If they used weighted GPA many students would be in the 4.6-5.2 range as an example.

I misread your post so just clarifying here.

Start looking at colleges that are matches and safeties given your stats.
