Hello anyone! I am apprehensive about the schedule weight I have put on myself for this coming semester and I was hoping to receive some opinions if anyone would like to share.
I am a current and very decided double major in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics going into my second year on the CS and third year on the Math. I am classified as a Senior, but this is because I transferred in with an Associate’s Degree. This is my second year, so I have five more semesters to graduation in both my majors with careful planning.
I am undecided in where I am going in the future, however I often tend to lean towards atmospheric sciences and every now and then Pre-Med ideas. Software engineering is also a contender in something I would wish to pursue in graduate school, however I have not made up my mind yet completely.
Looking into Pre-Med requirements I will need to take Organic Chemistry 1 & 2 as well as Calculus based Physics 1 & 2 (I’ve had the first section of this class before, however it did not transfer properly and I will need to retake it for the requirement.) I’ve considered completing a chemistry minor, however this will put me at a steady 18 credit hours until I graduate.
My question is about my class schedule for next semester, which I an apprehensive towards taking 18 credit hours. I currently am enrolled in :
1 Credit - Online Course for Tutoring Employment (I am a mathematics tutor at my university)
4 Credit - Programming II (Java) & Lab
3 Credit - Intro to Logic and Proof
3 Credit - Intro to Scientific Computing (Using mathematical software)
3 Credit - Research Project (I am involved in a medical/mathematics research project)
4 Credit - Organic Chemistry & Lab
Does anyone have an opinion on if this course load is to much or just enough? I realize that many science majors have heavily loaded schedules, and this will surely not be my first time with one. Another question I have is would the Organic Chemistry courses be classes I could take alone at another university once I graduate? Or perhaps in graduate school if I pursue atmospheric science? I am ignorant to how graduate school works in terms of what classes you need to take and if you can continue undergraduate classes if you do not have them.
Any advice is surely helpful! Thank you for reading my wall of text.
