I keep reading about CS companies with great atmospheres - laid back dress code, flexible hours, cool perks, bring your pet to work, game rooms (lol)...just companies that sound really fun and chill. Anyone know of others like this that I should look at?

Startups generally have a relaxing atmosphere. Most of the time multiple startups are on the same floor.
I have visited a couple startups in my freshman year. Just my 0.0000002 cent

Those perks are just marketing scams with no real basis in reality.
You will not spend 3 hours a day playing foozeball at work or tinkering with rubiks cubes.

Yes, those various things are common in “Silicon Valley” computer companies.

But you are still expected to get your work done, regardless of (lack of) dress code, what time of day or night you work, or break time at the foosball table.

Ari7 - a lot of very talented people don’t like to be forced into a rigid work environment with set work times and rules. But regardless of the company that you eventually work for, or start on your own, the key is in ucbalumnus’ second paragraph.

Dude. Just about any startup in Silicon Valley, and many of the established companies as well (I’ve visited Google/Facebook and they’re both really laid-back environments—on the superficial stuff, because everyone there is really dedicated to the work they do).

Are you asking for specific CS companies or companies in non-CS fields that have this atmosphere?

[Fog Creek Software](<a href=“Glitch: The friendly community where everyone builds the web”>http://www.fogcreek.com/)

This is one company that posted a bunch of pictures of their new office somewhere on Flickr or picasa or something. It’s a great looking work environment. I’m sure there are many like these as well, as others have mentioned, start-ups and small firms usually will do this sort of thing.
