CSOM Computer

I am thinking about attending BC next year and was admitted to CSOM. I had been hoping to buy a Mac next year (have been using it at my high school and prefer them to PCs), but I was wondering if it is better to have a PC for the Carroll school.

What would be the advantages/disadvantages for one over the other?

I have been wondering the same exact thing for awhile, especially with new MacBook Pros coming out soon. Would a PC make things much easier than a Mac at Carroll?

Dear BCeagle92/ltdsting26 : At some point during the spring, after you have sent in your deposit, you will receive information from BC/Dell regarding personal computers. Only at that point will you know what the standard, discounted platforms will be for the upcoming year.

There will also be support specialists available during your orientation sessions if you purchase on your own and need configuration changes. You will largely be responsible for your own system in the long run, so if you venture far from the standards, be sure that you are suffciently computer savvy to handle the situation.

There are some utilities used in the sciences that were PC/Intel only three years back, but that may well have changed. You should be comfortable on either platform.

At your orientation, you’ll not only be able to talk to the support specialists, but you’ll also be able to talk to lots of other students to learn about pros-and-cons for the PC options they’ve considered. As long as there is sufficient time between your orientation and Sept 1st for you to order/buy a PC, you should really consider waiting till after orientation to make your decision.

BC does offer attractive prices for the “standard” notebook PCs listed on their website.

Thank you scottj and jpm50 for your info! I will probs wait till after orientation to order my computer then cause I will probably be going in mid-July

So the new MacBook pro just came out today. Scott J, JPM- do you think it would be a mistake for me to get a MacBook pro or any other laptop before my orientation at the end of June?

I personally would advocate getting a Mac, but I’m biased. But if you do get one, wait until they have the promotion of a free printer and iPod with your purchase of the Macbook Pro.

You can get it when you show your acceptance letter!

It’s up to you. However, you’ll be able to make a more informed decision about which laptop to purchase after orientation. Why rush?

okay thanks, thats what i plan on doing. Since i have an earlier orientation date, I will have time to get acclimated with the computer until school starts
