CSS Form - House Under Water

Hi,

I've spent a good bit of time searching the board to no avail, hoping someone can help. :0)

I'm working on my D's CSS form. Our region took a big hit with too many new houses in the housing boom and our house is worth less than we owe on it (like much of America).

PA 130A & PA 135A are asking the current value and the amount paid for the house. I initially tried putting the value and the amount paid, but at the end of the document I was instructed to fix it.

I read elsewhere on CC to just put a zero for "current market value" when someone asked what to do in a similar situation for figuring EFC. I tried that, but I still got the following message from the Profile:

"The current market value of your parents' home is less than the amount owed on the

home. Please review the responses to these questions (PROFILE Help Codes PA-130
and PA-135) and correct as appropriate. Return to question"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

say your house was paid off- what would it sell for?
What do you pay taxes on?
Since they are unlikely going to expect you to borrow against the house- just try and get it to accept the info.

Can you get it to accept even with the error message indicating that the house is worth less than you owe? If so, submit it that way. I am sure aid officers see a lot of Profiles with underwater houses these days!

I don’t believe you can put a value less than $0.

Thanks you two . . . we haven’t submitted yet as I want to double-check everything. I will try to submit it in a couple days.

We got same error messege. I think it just wants to alert you if mistakenly entered wrong numbers. It will let you submit with “negative” value.

Okay, thank you welldad.
