CSS Noncustodial parent app help...

hi~

three of the universities i applied to requires CSS profile, and one of the university sent me an email today stating that i am missing the noncustodial parent app.

my parents got divorced when i was really young and now i am living with one of my parent in America, (i'm originally from China)

my dad is in China and unable to provide me with any financial assistance and did not provide any since i immigrated here, so I am just wondering...can i be exempted from the noncustodial parent app? should i email the universitie's financial aid office? and the two other universities did not ask me for NCP app, but should I still email them as well to see if they need it??

thank you so much!

You have to request a waiver from the NCP form. You should call the FA office of the college that sent you the email and ask them how you request a waiver.

For the other schools, first go onto their FA webpages to determine if they require the NCP form. Most do, but not all. If they do require it, then you can get ahead of the issue by also calling them and asking how they expect your to proceed with the waiver request. Different colleges will have different procedures. Granting the waiver is totally at their discretion, so you can try but won’t necessarily be successful at all schools. Good luck. Some schools seem to be pretty lenient, others very resistant to granting NCP waivers.
