CSS Profile -Parents' 2006 Income & benefits

I havent yet filed my taxes for the year 2006. How should I fill in the questions in this section? Should I just fill in zeros or what?

Like yourself, I do not know. My guess is to plug in an estimate-they know you have not filed your taxes. This may provide them insight should your income be radically different from the year before. Forgive me if I am wrong-I am guessing this is the case.

Like the FAFSA, estimate, then you must correct it with each school, I believe, once you do your taxes.

you can't correct PROFILE to my knowledge- but you can send updated information to your colleges
There wouldn't be much point in replacing figures with zeros, as you want the most accurate numbers to get the closest estimate of your offer once numbers are finalized
Use last years taxes along with check stubs from this year to give a good estimate

To correct the PROFILE, you have to copy your original one (with the estimates) and pen in the changes to each item needing to be changed on the paper copy. Then you mail it to the finaid office at the college yourself directly. Now doesn't that make a LOT of sense??? We had to do that with two schools last year. You will want to check with the college finaid offices to see what they require. If they use IDOC they may not require this as you will be submitting documentation of income, etc to IDOC and that will be forwarded to the colleges. I can tell you, it really irritated me that I spent all that money to send an inaccurate form from the College Board, and then had to handwrite the changes myself. Ridiculous.

What's IDOC?

Chedva,

Thanks, northeastmom!
