CSS Profile - self employed

Hi everyone! I’ve been having a hard time filling out the CSS profile :
My dad is a doctor and has his own office (works for himself).
1- Should I indicate that he is self-employed?
2- Should I declare his office as a buisness in the parents’ assets section?
3-for the parent income section, answering the first question “Wages, salaries, commissions, and tips” , should I put the total income of my parents without subtracting the taxes and the expenses related to my dad’s office(electricity, secretary salary,…)?
4- My dad employs a secretary. Should I subtract her salary from my dad’s “income from work”?

Thank you in advance for your help !

Do you have your parents tax forms (1040) as you are filling it out? Copy information from the tax forms. Most of the information should be on them. If your dad works for himself, then he is self-employed. If he is, his income should be listed on the tax form as business income and not as wages, salaries, tips, etc. Business income should be income minus expenses but this should have all been on the tax form so you should not have to calculate it again. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much but I forgot to mention that I’m an international student (Tunisian) and we do not have the same type of tax forms you have.
On our forms, it is only indicated that he has a turnover without tax of X, a turnover including tax of Y, and an income tax due of Y-X

So logically, my dad is self-employed.
He has a buisness, which is his office.
in the “income from work” I should put his turnover including tax
and then, in the buisness income, I should put his turnover including tax minus (the taxes+ the expenses related to his buisness( secretary wages,etc…) . )
Is that right?

I declared my dad’s office as a business.
I still have one question:
should I report my dad’s income twice, in the “income from work” section of the “parent income” category, AND in the “parent portion of buisness gross income” section ? Or should I put my dad “income from work” 0, and only put what my dad earns in the “parent portion of buisness gross income” ?

Your dad is self employed as a physician.

Does he have records of his gross income, taxes paid, and business expenses from 2018? You need these things to complete your financial aid forms.

Yes I do have all of them

I just don’t know if I should report his gross income twice in the “income from work” section of the “parent income” category, AND in the “parent portion of buisness gross income” section , or if I should put my dad “income from work” 0, and only put what my dad earns in the “parent portion of buisness gross income”

@happymomof1

Does that place you recommend overseas help foreign citizens abroad with these things? Could you make a recommendation for Tunisia?

Unfortunately no :confused:
I guess I’m gonna put my dad’s “income from work” 0 dollars, and put what he earns in his “business gross income”. This way It’s clear that he only earns money from his doctor’s office . Worst case scenario the universities will email me and ask me directly … so yeah… Do you think I should do that?

Please wait. Let’s see if @happymomof1 answers. I wasn’t asking you a question!!

Wondering what the self employed do in this country?

I’m guessing your dad’s income is NOT $0.

@Madison85

I think you should get your dad to fill this in. This is really beyond the level of expertise of a teenager.

In Tunisia, the place to get help with your questions is AMIDEAST. There are four offices in Tunisia. https://www.amideast.org/tunisia Contact the one closest to you, and set up an appointment with a counselor.
