I was reading on one of my college's websites and found that the CSS profile is due when you apply. I assumed CSS was the same time as FAFSA but after searching I realized this isn't true. I have November 1st deadlines and I'm not sure my parents could finish it in time.
1. Is there a list of what colleges require the CSS profile? I found one of the college board website, but I'm not sure if its ones that accept it or actually require it.
2. Can someone quickly summarize the procedure for CSS profile? It sounds expensive to send to schools and I don't qualify for a waiver for that. And do I send it before I apply or once I apply or after I get in?
3. For CSS schools do I do FAFSA as well?
I'm so confused and freaking out about this when I should be working on apps! Thank you for any and all info!

Though you really need to read the financial aid deadlines, as well as any other deadlines for every single school on your list, it’s been my experience that the Nov1 deadline for CSS PROFILE pertains to school that have some early deadline, generally Early Decision. Most of the deadline I’ve seen are February of 2015.

If you need or want financial aid from a school that requires the PROFILE, yes, you have to file one if you want any school money. Yes, you will have to fill out FAFSA as well which doesn’t even become available till 1/1/2015 for the fall 2015 school year start.

Every school will have a chart showing their deadlines. List your school and write down what the deadline are for them, including those for FAFSA and CSS PROFILE as well as for any special scholarships some school might have out there that require separate applications. what schools have a 11/1 deadline for PROFILE that is not for an Early Decision?

To answer one of your questions though I think @cptofthehouse has things in hand

Even if you can’t make 11/1 for CSS for a school that has an early deadline for some reason (say you are applying ED), put your application in anyway and try to get the profile in within a few days. It IS time consuming, so ask your parents to please set aside some time this weekend to work on it. HOWEVER, if you are applying ED and filling out the CSS profile, that means you are applying for need-based aid. You get no chance to compare aid packages between schools if you do this and are accepted by your ED school. The cost of attendance can vary widely across schools, so consider this carefully before applying ED. Don’t be blinded by the idea that only one school can be right for you.
