CSUF for Sociology or CSULB for Economics!?

Here's the deal...

I was so undecided between majors when I started applying for schools that I applied to half of them as Econ majors and the other half as Sociology majors. I narrowed it down to CSUF or CSULB because of location(i can live with a family member). I have already been accepted to CSUF. I am still waiting back from CSULB. Going to CSUF would make the rest of my year pretty smooth. CSULB would take some extra work due to econ requiring more classes and would put me in a tough position since I work full time. I initially wanted CSULB since I feel the econ major is more valuable, but now I'm wondering if I'm stressing myself out too much over that. Any Advice?

Econ and Sociology are both liberal-arts majors. Perhaps with Sociology you could get a job in social work because of that degree (not sure, maybe you need a Masters). But Econ itself is not really much more valuable for entering the business world than any other liberal-arts degree since it is theoretically oriented. A business based degree such as accounting, finance, etc. is something entirely different since it is training for a specific type of work, but Econ is not the same as those. What I’m saying is don’t use the supposed prestige of the Econ degree to make your decision.

I hope you won’t have to work full time one you xfer. A way that undergrads with liberal arts majors get valuable experience and a leg up on their competitors for jobs is via internships, and you’re not going to have much free time to do those if you’re working 40 hours a week.

You hit it right on the nose…I was trying to figure out if Econ majors had any leg up on the business world than Sociology. I ruled out business degrees for a few reasons that I don’t want to get into, but that was very helpful
