If you take the SAT to qualify for CTY, then you can also look at CTD at Northwestern and TIP through Duke and see if they have programs that are interesting. You can then send them your SAT scores from CTY and qualify that way.

My daughter never went to CTY, CTD, or TIP summer programs, but she did do some CTY and CTD courses online.

My oldest goes to reunions pretty frequently. This doesn’t include the nearly weekly multi-person skype sessions. These are a pretty important part of her life at this point.

My son first tested in 6th grade, before the sat test and then did the sat in 7th and 8th. He won state awards both times. He took it the second time because the first time we took him to JHU for the award ceremony and out to lunch in the Inner Harbor, and he loved the special day and lunch so much, he took the test again just to do it! lol

He did he camps for 3 years and while he doesn’t still stay in touch with the kids it was a huge maturing/transforming thing for him. He was around kids who got his jokes, the classes were fun and interesting to him and while I didn’t think he’d make it 3 weeks away from home, he thrived.

It was funny, in a college interview he had recently the interviewer must have asked about camps or something, and ds asks - have you ever heard of cty? lol (like a high ranked admin wouldn’t have)

DS nevermored this past summer as well, after 5 years (“5 year freak parents” unite, jmnva!). He’s in mourning about not being able to attend this coming summer, although is planning to go to the closing if he can talk me into driving him there. He has gone to an informal reunion - took the Megabus and stayed for the weekend.

One of my friends (about my age, he is a father now) was a CTYer. He did three years of CTY two terms per year. So his whole summer in the last year of middle school and the first few years of HS were taken by CTY. Then he said he was a TA for CTY the last year in HS. He said he was so happy and earned decent money. That sounds so cool. I wonder if CTY still does that. All the years my D. did CTY, the TAs were adults. (not HS students)
