Hi all. I'm thinking of attending Cal, and I'm wondering about the culture there. I crave a school with diversity, intellectualism, and eccentricity. I often hang out with artists, "hipsters" if you wanna call them that, and such. I know Cal has a rep for having a high degree of all of these things culturally, which I'm excited about, but how true is the rep from real students' experiences?

From my experience, hipster/artistic students are usually History of Art / Practice of Art / Media Studies majors in L&S, and Forestry majors in College of Natural Resources (tree huggers? jk). You would probably meet them in similar classes.

Cal is a BIG university so there’s a lot of different cultures going on at Cal. I’ve personally never seen the artisty, “hipster” types but I am 100% sure you can find them somewhere if you look.

the people i know in performing arts dept are hella chillllllllll

The “artists” and “hipsters” here are better displays of superficiality and trend following than any sort of intellectualism or diversity.

oh caiacs, when’s the last time you did anything “artistic”? :P

Yesterday . . .
