Cuny Acceptances - Fall 2017

I would contact Hunter and ask about the packet and the email letter. My son is still waiting for John Jay but I told him if you don’t get accepted go to a community college and then transfer into John Jay after.

I know it’s important and everyone wants to get into their dream college but don’t stress over this. I feel that as long as you get an education it doesn’t matter where you start, you can also work hard your first year and transfer. You should just make sure all your credits are accepted when you do. Good luck everyone.

Just an FYI for freshman, colleges care A LOT about your SAT. They’ll take a lower average if that means a higher SAT, had 2 friends in hs one with a 93 average 1350 (out of 2400) and one with an 85 (1600) and the 85 student got in the other did not.

No need for stress, go to whichever college accepted you for now and transfer t you’re dream school. That’s exactly what I did. I went to CSI for 2 years after not getting in Baruch, and I got accepted as a transfer last week. Don’t worry !

@hamstargaming whats your GPA nd SAT ?

To those who were rejected from either Hunter or Baruch don’t stress out its not the end of the world. Those two schools are very very selective and picky when it comes to freshmans. Jaycom18 is right about the SAT scores they take those very seriously as a freshman.

I agree with everyone’s advice on just going to one of the schools that you were accepted to and transferring later on which is what I also did. Once you have a certain amount of credits and meet some of their transfer requirements your high school info isn’t as important.

thanks guys

by the way guys, I’m probably not gonna take a risk and rather submit my deposit for george mason university as its just 20 mins away. I have to pay outstate for it as my dad files his taxes in new york. i was just wondering that can i actually take out a loan of 15000$ from George mason?? or is there a limit to when u r taking loans from colleges?

I would only take out the loan for only the first year. You may decide to transfer after the first year.

You can apply for scholarships that would cover some of the cost.

@hamstargaming Did you get accepted into any CUNY’s of so why not just attend one because starting in the fall tuition will be free if you meet the requirements. Also it would make transferring to either Baruch or Hunter easier because transferring from cuny to cuny is faster than from a private school or non-cuny. And most of your credits might be transferred/accepted by them too, instead of taking out a loan

@CunyOD thats the problem. I got rejected by Baruch and waitlisted by hunter. I only applied to these two. :frowning:

If you’re trying to transfer to a CUNY go to a CUNY !!! They prefer CUNY students. Friend of mine had a 3.5 GPA at a private school and that was way higher than mine, Baruch took me and not him !! I actually asked a counseler about that and she pretty much confirmed it…go to a CUNY community college if you want to transfer to a school u didn’t get into (Baruch Hunter Brooklyn etc.)

@hamstargaming Oh ok I understand. I agree with @jaycom18 it will be harder to transfer in from anywhere that’s not a cuny so try applying to a community college that’s a cuny as soon as possible or contact cuny and see your chances. I know the school I go to city tech might accept you as well but it’s not a community college. Try going up to a school and applying in person so you can get the decision right away

FYI for incoming freshman, if you go to a CUNY cc and get an associates (4 semesters) with a 2.5 gpa or higher, Hunter guarantees you admission. Not sure about other CUNY’s.

My son didn’t get accepted to Baruch either, we are still waiting for John Jay. He will probably go to BMCC and transfer. We were told the same thing, it’s much easier to transfer to another Cuny and they will accept your credits. It’s also much less expensive. We know of two people that went that route and one ended up at Hunter and the other at Baruch. They completed their educations at the Cuny schools.

You should just go to a private university and avoid community college at all cost. The NYC community colleges has all the things you hated in high school follow you around. There are a lot of loud noisy thugs who just go there to “chill” and act all rowdy. Not worth the time and effort.

Hello, I have a question: I applied to cuny really late (April 19) I am looking to attend a community college then transfer, but I am afraid they will reject me because of how overdue the application was. I applied to qcc, laguardia, and kings borough…along with a few four years just in case. My gpa in h.s was 2.7 which in number is 80-81. My question is when will I hear back and will they reject me? They said they will be accepting on a space availability basis, I contacted laguardia and the admissions representative told me to apply.

CodeD1 you are ignorant. If you have nothing positive to say leave. Community colleges exists for a reason. You sound bitter, and it doesn’t matter where you go to college it’s the effort that you put in that matters.

@chemist76 Hey idk cause i applied in december and got rejected and you applied like in April !!! they are probably gonna put you on waitlist and btw u haven’t heard back from any of the colleges? if u haven’t heard back thats probably because u got rejected like most of us on here. lol.
