@STEM2017 I’m happy that you found my response helpful. The math placement exam should be relatively stress-free. It is an untimed exam with only 20 questions and 5 types of math questions. The average time needed however is about 60-90 minutes.
Registering for the exam is easy. In the e-mail that your son received there is a registration link to a list of multiple testing dates. He can pick the one most convenient for him. Upon registration he will receive a detailed confirmation e-mail with all of the information needed to prepare for the exam.
@Phenomenal The average processing and evaluation time needed is about 6-8 weeks, but can sometimes take longer in the case of international applicants. The most important thing is to ensure that your application is complete with all of the required documentation submitted. This should ensure that your application is reviewed within that average time frame.
If you would like, you can e-mail me your CUNYfirst ID number (to cparker@ccny.cuny.edu) and I can check your application status.
@shurayu To answer your earlier question, a Positive Service Indicator - indicated at the top of your CUNYfirst Student Services Center by a red star - is a notification to you and the campus community (faculty and staff) that there is something you need to do, or something protecting your account. For example, at CCNY we will use a “Scholarship Pending” Positive Service Indicator to ensure that students who have a balance on their accounts, but are expecting a scholarship, are not dropped from their course(s) and/or do not have a Bursar hold placed on their accounts. Also, we may use it to inform you that while you are being admitted generally to the college, your intended (desired) major may still have additional requirements.
The difference between a Positive Service Indicator and a Negative Service Indicator, is that a Negative Service Indicator - identified by a red circle with a forward slash (similar to a No Parking sign) will prevent you from doing certain important things on your account, like registering for classes. However, those Negative Service Indicators are not always so negative. We place a Negative Service Indicator on all admitted students titled “Advisement Required” to ensure that they meet with an Academic Advisor - a meeting that we facilitate upon admission - and pick the proper and necessary courses.
All Positive and Negative Service Indicators have additional details provided that you can see by clicking on the symbols, or by clicking “details” in the “Holds” box of your Student Services Center right bar menu. I hope this answers your question. Please feel free submit a follow-up post if you need further clarification, or e-mail me if you prefer to discuss your situation privately (cparker@ccny.cuny.edu).
@CParker Thank you for the detailed response! Currently, I have no holds.
When I do try to click on the Positive Service Indicator I get a popup message that says “You are not authorized to access Manage Service Indicators. (14000,458)
The link you have selected requires that you have security access to Manage Service Indicators. Contact your Security Administrator for access to this feature.”
My application has said that my transcript has been received/evaluated for about two weeks now. On the top, it says that my application is complete and under review. When should I be getting my decision? I have already been artistically accepted into the music program, so should that help my decision?
@wam123 My D’s application has been complete and in that status since Dec/Jan. We are close to committing to a school (expect in the next 2 weeks) so doubt will even hear a result before we’ll have to withdraw the application. It’s disappointing that it takes so long.
My application is still under review and I only applied to John jay college of criminal justice. I applied back in December but then I had to call them recently because my transcript was still required. Should I call them again and ask?
@wam123 It will typically take about 6-8 weeks for processing and evaluation - essentially 6-8 weeks for an answer - once your application is complete. Complete means that your application has been submitted, the application fee has been paid/waived, and all required documentation (i.e. transcripts, test scores) have been received. Some campuses may take a bit longer in responding to you, but that is about the average time frame.
@NYDreammom I’m sorry that you are experiencing such an inordinate delay. Please e-mail me your D’s CUNYfirst (EMPLID) number. Please include your first choice CUNY campus, so that I can try to get a colleague at that campus to assist you. Also, please include your College Confidential username, so that I know you are contacting me. My e-mail is cparker@ccny.cuny.edu
@24application Please e-mail me your CUNYfirst (EMPLID) number and your College Confidential username (to cparker@ccny.cuny.edu). I will forward your inquiry to a colleague at John Jay College that an assist you.
@CParker Would you be able to help me? I applied to John Jay and I it has been a long time with no change on my app. I did email 2 times but never received a response. I just checked and I submitted my application in November!
@CParker thank you for all the help you’re providing. I was wondering if I could send you an email as well. I am facing trouble with my application and I am in need of guidance. I have sent emails asking for help, but have not gotten a response.
@CParker I have also been experiencing a similar problem with my application for Baruch College. Everything is processed/received/evalutated and it says application complete and ready for review and it’s been that way for months. If it’s possible you could help me as well, it would be greatly appreciated
Boy was the application process a mess. I had so many issues with cunyfirst and it told me my application was under review for MONTHS with no replies to my emails about it but brooklyn just now randomly emailed me that I got in…
