CUNY - the different options (City Univ. of NY)

Mommy_Dearest recently brought up New York City's jewel of City University... For those of us in New York State these programs could offer some very good options.

I'm familiar with Hunter College and Fashion Institute of Technology - but not that familiar. I'd love to hear from any of you who do have some input to share about any of these different programs - hightlighting their differences, strengths and weaknesses.

If I'm not alone in this request, it could become a handy thread.

Check out Brooklyn College. It is one of the top CUNY schools and was voted most beautiful campus a few years ago in a national publication. The CUNY honors program is now well known. You get full tuition, travel stipend and a laptop. Recently there has been a lot of press about CUNY. They have an Intel science winner enrolling there next year and have had 2 Rhodes Scolars in the past year. CUNY has come a very long way and it's a great option for someone who wants to stay home...no dorms.
A friend of my D graduated from Brooklyn Tech last year, top school, high grades, high SATs. Had a lot of choices, but ultimately decided to attend the honors program at the College of Staten Island. She loves it there and is doing very well. In the meantime, because of her full scholarship, her parents have agreed to pay for at least part of grad school if that is what she chooses to do.

FIT runs a great summer program. Our child took advantage of it twice.

Its a good way to test the waters of the CUNY system.

Thanks for all your tips.

Yes, FIT's summer programs and Saturday Live programs both look good to me... I will have to start reading all these websites carefully.

FIT is part of the SUNY (State university) system, not CUNY. Cuny is broken down into 2 and 4 year schools with colleges in every borough.

Some schools are known for their programs Example;

Baruch- Business
Hunter- Social work, Psychology, Nursing
Brooklyn & Queens- Liberal Arts
City College of NY- Engineering
Lehman
College of Staten Island
Hotel Management NYC College of Technology
Criminal Justice- John Jay

Thank you, sybbie719 - I really did know that about FIT, but somehow it got swept up in the CUNY thread. :o And thanks for that link as well as your break downs. :)
