Do natural triples in Fitzpatrick have their own bathrooms?

What’s the maximum number of hours I can expect as a non-work study student? How many would you reccomend?

Any opinions on Duschene East? I got placed in a traditional double there. I heard it’s a very tight nit community, with the only con being that it, like all the other Newton dorms, requires 10 minute bus rides to Main.

Damnn hella responses after room assignments.

@ravenclaw Most people get their books when they get there. You may end up changing classes several times so it would be a waste to get books for a class you end up desperately trying to get out of. But no one I know has an e-reader, can’t help you there.

@sloanestarr812 The administration at BC is very conservative. This is apparent with no contraceptives on campus, crosses in classrooms, etc. The Jesuit ideals are present but no one is out there preaching on the quad or trying to convert you or anything like that. Absolutely no mandatory services. The school recognizes there are many religions present on campus and nothing save for the theology core is required as far as that goes. The students, however, are quite liberal in comparison. It is a good balance, but they clash occasionally.

@omgheyybuddy You definitely cannot double major in CSOM as a CAS student, and I’m pretty sure you cannot minor either, although you can take something up to 6 classes in the school.

@bcollegec I lived in Keyes last year actually haha I know plenty about it. It is on Newton and it is the “Newton of Newton” as some people have called it. It is the most secluded but that doesn’t make too much of a difference. Plenty of people in Keyes had friends in Hardey/Cushing and Duchesne. I could go on about it for a while, feel free to ask anything you want to know!

@HNSenior I don’t know what they are doing for Kostka this year, but it has been an all girls dorm for a couple years now I believe. Some like it, others not so much. Triples do not have their own bathrooms though, unless you are on first floor Fitz I believe.

@Madscholar Depends on the teacher. Some will never know if you even have a book, others will want you to bring a paperback. You’ll only know until you get a feel for each class, teacher, department, etc.

@ravenclaw If you are on the first floor, they might, I’m not entirely sure though.

I don’t think being work-study matters as far as hours go. Pretty sure all students are capped at 20 hours a week. But your hours should depend on how much you spend, class load, etc. I’m sure wherever you work will be flexible in the first few weeks as you get acclimatized to college. I started with something like 13 first semester and went down to about 8 or so, but I know people who worked as little as 5 and as much as 20. 20 is very, very intense though.

Dusch is a really nice building and the most recently renovated on Newton I think. Great lounge areas and stuff. I don’t know the nuances of life there, but a tight nit community really depends on the people, not the building. It is close to Hardey/Cush though, so on weekends it may seem more… lively… with four dorms in close vicinity to one another. The biggest con I can imagine would be the morning walk to the bus up the hill. It didn’t snow too much last year at all though, hopefully you luck out too!

2 Questions:

I’m in a forced triple. Is it really that bad (I’m a guy btw)? How much less space is there?

What size tv would you recommend? I have a 26" that I was thinking of bringing…is that okay?

bronovan is right in that you can’t double major as an A&S student in CSOM, however you CAN minor there. The program, called Management And Leadership, started last semester, so definitely check it out if you’re interested!

And to clarify, many dorms, not just Fitzpatrick, have traditional triples with bathrooms (but not all of them). The floor plans of each dorm can be found online, and if you look closely, you’ll be able to see if there’s a bathroom in the specific building you’re looking for.

did you like keyes? i’m in a quad in keyes north basement.

Thanks bronovan,

I looked at the Newton campus map and saw that the library was basically on the opposite side of the campus from Duschene. Does Duschene offer any good study areas (besides your room) or are there any good nearby study places?

Not going to lie, I’ve heard they are pretty cramped. I haven’t seen too many since I was on Newton and we didn’t have any out there. If you get a good system going with your roommates it should be fine though, plenty of people get forced triples every year and many turn out well.

A 26’’ would be a really good size for the room though I would guess.

I was actually in the Keyes basement last year hahaha please let me know which quad you are in! But I did end up enjoying Keyes a lot. At first the walk to the bus sucked but you get used to it, it has a great location otherwise.

A: Dusch has the best dorm study lounges on Newton by far, you lucked out there!

Any thoughts on Xavier hall?

how’s gonzaga?

I was actually in a quad in Keyes basement too my freshman year. It was right across from the bathroom, 004E I think.
