Current Broadcast TV shows: what to watch/avoid? + discussion with spoilers

I’m trying some new shows: Ordinary Joe, really wanted to like (intrigued by the premise), but don’t like how in 1 episode they jump between the three possible lives. I’m always wondering, ok - who is the wife in this one, and where is the kid? I wish they would do 1 life in an episode, maybe mix in a minor blip of another, but it’s hard to get attached when they’re bumping around to all 3.
I liked La Brea. Ghosts was funny, though I think the storyline won’t/can’t last very long. Can’t say I look forward to any shows tbh, except Survivor of the top of my head, which has it’s own thread.

I think This is Us was very confusing to figure out at first and what character was what. But as I continue watching, it became clearer, although in This is Us, they still like to surprise us with their characters

I liked La Brea too and wonder where it’s going. Less homework than Lost and I like survival tales.
Plus I “discovered” the existence of the Tar Pits and the red building/automotive museum!
(My one problem is some foolishness in the plot: anyone with any sense should know that if you’re near a vehicle and a wild animal with major TEETH is about to charge you get into the vehicle and lock the doors, because the animal runs faster than you).
I just tried Ghosts and found it very funny. The ensemble cast works together well and I love anachronistic or time contrast humor. Just like you I’m not sure they can sustain this for long, but between the DIY show, the B&B, the ghosts, etc, I’ll see where it goes.

Discussion open for all Mondays shows + anything else you want to recommend that was on TV on Sunday

I enjoyed last night’s Ordinary JoE. I can see the characters developing and potential hurdles in future relationships a little better. All 3 Joe’s are mice people, I wonder if one of the future Joe’s may change his personality and become more cynical, dishonest, etc.
I still can’t remember everything, like where is the child in Police Joe? I know he’s adopted in Rock Star Joe and his son in Nurse Joe.

The blonde married another man in police Joe and are raising the child as her present husband’s child

OK thank you.

So Gibbs rides into the sunset. The preview for next week’s episode seems to indicate Gary Cole’s character is acting as the new Gibbs, ugh.

alright, I’m going to give episode 2 another try and watch episode 3.

@MADad: it’s possible the actor might have wanted to do something else with his life. According to wikipedia, he’s close to 70 he might want something a bit lighter than a year long show, with all the cool miniseries and limited series now?

RE: NCIS if Mark Harmon wants to do something else, then it’s time to shut down the series. It’s steadily gone downhill as Michael Weatherly, Paulie Perrette, and others have left the show, along with some questionable additions to the cast (never either Ellie Bishop or Ziva, and the Nick character is like from a cartoon).

I actually thought Ziva is a great character, much better than her predecessor Caitlin Todd (although I liked Sasha Alexander in Rizzoli & Isles).

I don’t think Mark Harmon wants to do something else. He’s impossibly rich from NCIS, he’s an executive producer. I think it’s very physically difficult to do an hour long drama. I suspect he wants to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Editing to say that I googled and Mark Harmon is 70 years old. Definitely time to step back

Having a Mossad agent join NCIS stretched credibility. Then they made her character into a cartoonish superwoman—among NCIS fans on NCIS chat boards, her jump-the-shark-moment was in the Christmas episode “Newborn King”, where Ziva saved Gibbs by strangling an assassin with her thighs! Strange.

I agree. The most-recent story arc gave Harmon a chance to act with his wife Pam Dawber–fun way for Harmon to move on. At his age why not enjoy life.

Heck, David McCallum (Ducky Mallard/Ilya Kuryakin) is 88 years old himself!

Mark Harmon did not want to renew his contract after last season. At that point, CBS said, fine, but that will end the show. Mark did not want to put his colleagues on the unemployment line, so he said he come back for limited episodes – his contract was only for four, so he’s done. (Not saying that he can’t re-up for more episodes later.) He is still listed as Executive Producer.

yes, Gary Cole appears to be his replacement (Interim?) back in the HQ.

If this doesn’t belong here, tell me and I’ll remove the post, but since this thread is current-TV related, and I don’t think this warrants its own thread:

Why is there a cable network called the Travel Channel that does NOT show any travel-related programming? EVERYTHING they show is related to the supernatural: ghosts, hauntings, mythical monsters, demons and demonic possessions, etc.

I would LOVE a travel channel that shows travel-centric programs!

I’m also having trouble following the story line with Ordinary Joe. A surprise for me is Big Leap. Both my spouse and I enjoy it. And I’m not sure why, but Bob Hearts Abishola always makes me smile.

Haven’t heard of Big Leap. Will look for it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Big leap didn’t sound very appealing, anything that makes it interesting? For reference I don’t watch Dancing with the stars and don’t see how it’d be possible for untrained adults to tackle a classical ballet. So, I figured, too much suspension of disbelief for a slice of life show.

Talking about suspending disbelief…
I started watching La Brea episode 3 and got more and more confused as minutes went, then realized I had somehow skipped episode 2…
(It doesn’t bother me that there’d be an alternate universe or something, because it’s in the premise, it doesn’t promise realistic fiction. It only bothers me when it’s supposed to be realistic but for plot reasons or to justify the show’s existence, it’s - ridiculously, sometimes - not.)

You mean how like in last night’s episode, after having been in the alternate universe for a few days, when the stranded citizens are lining up for food, there’s a business man in a cleanly pressed suit and bright white, starched collared shirt?
