I’d like to give you some suggestions but you only posted your ECs, which by the way look pretty good. The D is not going to look good at all, especially since it’s in your junior year. Also, your senior year looks a little light, maybe you could take some extra classes at that community college. I have no idea where you are in the other areas, so I can’t really give you much feedback. You could pm me if you just don’t want to post them.
About the double major:
…so you want to complete the core, double major, and do your pre-med requirements…in four years? Let’s assume you test out of the foreign language requirement, and you science requirements are fulfilled by your major. Then there are 10 core classes, 9 pre med courses, and 5 labs. There are various required recitations and lab lectures that are worth no credits. 7.5 to 10 classes to complete a psych major. 9.5 to 12 classes to complete an anthro major. You’d have to take 6 classes a semester, no study abroad, and no electives (that are not related to you major), no room for exploration and no room for mistakes…unless you’re planning to spend thousands of dollars in summer school or taking an extra year or two.

@Jennaira- I would like something completely different from Creative Writing like Economics or Spanish or Film. How would that work out?

Hey I’m interested in my chance at getting into Columbia (specifically engineering)

White male.
SAT - 2390: (CR-800, M-790, WR-800)
SAT II: Chem-800, Math II - 780, Math I - 740
AP: Chem-5. Calculus AB -5 (my school doesnt offer AP classes so I studied for these on my own)

Extra C’s:
I’ve been doing art my whole life and have a large portfolio.
I am president of a 501(c)3 charity that teaches weekly art classes at a homeless shelter and we also paint murals for old age homes and run art programs with special needs kids.
I am the graphic/art editor of my school newspaper.
I was the art editor of my high school literary magazine.
One summer I interned at the US Naval Research Lab (with the SEAP program),
the other summer I did a month long art course at Brandeis.

Awards:
National Merit Semifinalist so far,
2 National Spanish Exam Gold medals and 1 silver medal.

(i’ve also done soccer and track all of high school but less seriously than my art)

I also have a question about student life at Columbia. How is the social scene? Is it fun? (Im not talking about parties, im not much of a partier) What are some of the things people do for fun, are a lot of people involved in intramural sports . . . ? Thanks!

I think its EXTREMELY kind of you to take time out of your day to do this for us! I really appreciate it! (:
I was wondering, this probably an extremely stupid question, but could you explain the core curriculum? I know that there are extra classes you have to take, like PE and a foreign language, but how many years of those classes are necessary to fulfill the requirement? And would I be able to do the same sport for all 4 years to meet the requirement? How is Columbia in terms of those PE classes?
Sorry to overload you in questions there, but I’m not exactly clear on all that.

Thank you! :)

my family makes about 35,000 per year and I’ve been wanting to apply ED to columbia but i’m afraid about the financial aid situation. how likely is it that if i get in i’ll get a full ride?

I’m not sure if this is right but I visited Columbia this past summer and they said that anyone with an income lower than $60,000 is guaranteed full ride. While those who have an income between 60,000 and 100,000 the parents are expected to only contribute a little amount. So I think you’ll be fine. I can’t find the source right now but I know it’s on pamphlets that I got from the college. I know most of this since my family only makes around 30,000 a year so the fact that I could go to Columbia would be really good for me and my family (:

And I also found this from the Columbia website:
<a href=“Net Price Calculator”>Net Price Calculator;

great! thank you :)

i am pretty sure you might have answered questions like this but just to make sure:

1.) I know the tour guide I had said there is a lot of reading, but does anyone you know seem overwhelmed and overstressed?

2.) If you are liable to distractions and need short little breaks every 45min-1hr, would you still be able to get decent grades in Columbia? I really liked it and I hope it is still a good fit.

1) the better question is does anyone I know NOT seem overwhelmed and overstressed But yes, there are many people freaking out all the time, and many who are relaxed and doing fine.

2) A 10 minute break for every hour of study is considered ideal. Now if you’re doing an hour break for every 10 minutes of study… not so much.
