Hey guys, I’ve made a similar thread on the MIT forum, but decided to make one here as this alongside MIT are my dream schools, and I would like the input of the Caltech community.
To begin with I will give you whatever little academic background I can. I am an A student (A+ in all my science subjects). Unfortunately that’s all I can provide. I’m still waiting on my SAT scores and I’m planning on taking all my externals at the end of this year and the next.
The thing is, my academics are not really an issue as I am pretty confident I can do well. I am really worried about ECs however, I can’t even sleep at night when thinking about them. I have very little to no ECs. For you to get an idea, I am an Indian living in Dubai. As unlikely as it seems for a fast growing metropolis city like Dubai, there is nothing! I have huge passion for math and specifically technology, and I burn through books I buy with ease, but I have been looking for so long and can’t find any sort of math club or something else to demonstrate my passion. In both my city and school, you don’t get an opportunity to found a club, become class president, or get a research opportunity with a UCLA professor. My question is, what can I do to show the officers I am serious about pursuing my passion for math and technology in a university of Caltech’s caliber, when others who are given more opportunities apply with laundry lists of their academic ECs.
Not to mention that Caltech accepts 250 freshmen, 10 percent of whigh are international. So I’m competing with thousands of others, for 25 seats
