eric-thanks for clearing up the courses. I have sth. else to ask, though:
Does bucknell allow defering enrollment for 1 semester or is it for 1 year?
I'm not planning to, but i've had some bad luck in the visa process.

the bucknell website says the following:

[quote]
Entrance Deferral

A student may elect to defer enrollment for one year after being admitted by submitting a request in writing to the dean of admissions. A $500 non-refundable deposit will be required to hold this space for the year. Some students may wish to spend a year in travel or work before enrolling, and this provision is designed to encourage such plans.

if you have special circumstances, however (and it appears you do), id strongly recommend you speak to the university directly. im sure admissions will understand your problem and from there will recommend the best course of action.

okay, i'm a recruited athlete and i REALLY REALLY REALLY love bucknell. hands down my number one school; there's not a thing about it i don't like, other than the price. our EFC was in the 50ks so it's doubtful that we'll get financial aid, right? could being an athlete and having a 1470 SAT get us any money? i have seen the scholarships listed on the bucknell website but almost all of them are need-based. i will almost certainly have to take out loans because my parents can't actually afford to pay the entire $45k, but i don't want to be $100k in debt when i graduate!!

so i guess i'm just asking for any advice you could give me on how to approach this and make it possible to attend bucknell. thanks in advance!!

im really happy that you love bucknell!

one thing you may want to note on the financial aid page is that some academic scholarships are reserved for students without demonstrated need. with your scores, you may be eligible.

beyond that, i would also advise that you acquire a copy of the bucknell handbook, as it contains a fairly extensive list of privately endowed scholarships available to students on campus. from what i remember, because bucknell for so long did not offer athletic scholarships, many are reserved for athletes with strong academic credentials. unfortunately, however, it would likely be impossible for you to know what you might be awarded prior to choosing bucknell.

beyond that, im sorry that theres not much i can say. this is an issue you should definitely address with the coach of your sport; he or she will be able to offer significantly better advice.

on the general issue of money, i agree that 100k in debt is far too much for anyone to take on for any undergraduate education. hopefully something can be worked out so it doesnt come to having to make such a decision. in the meantime, good luck and ray bucknell!

thanks so much! i know we need to get talking with financial aid & the coach ASAP but any other advice is very helpful. is there anywhere else i can find info on these other scholarships besides in the bucknell handbook? sounds like a very good option.

actually nevermind, i think i found them here: http://www.bucknell.edu/Academics/Course_Catalog/Endowed_Scholarships.html
