"Stain, being Jewish is part of Brandeis's identity."
Wow really? Thanks for the info. I had no idea.
Anyway I knew what I would be getting into by picking Brandeis. I was just expressing something that I thought was frustrating.

i think it's perfectly VALID to be frustrated with it! whether or not it's part of brandeis's identity, and whether or not brandeis is referred to as "Jew U," brandeis is not OFFICIALLY a "jewish school" and roughly half of its population is not jewish. furthermore, i AM a jew, and i was extremely frustrated with it! (just one of my many reasons for transfering...) i have found that jews who, like me, are not particularly religious often found the environment to be frustrating.

Just to make sure, you said that grade deflation isn't a problem at Brandeis, right? I know a lot of people have academic scholarships and need to keep it above a 3.2 or whatever, it's not likely that you'll lose it (unless you really screw up) right?

KJ, a lot of my friends have scholarships that require a minimum GPA, and I don't know anyone who has any trouble at all meeting that minimum requirement.

I really don't see grade deflation here at all. Sure, there are very hard classes, particularly in the sciences, but there are always easy classes you could take to boost your GPA such as language courses that you are over-qualified for and some other classes in less-demanding departments that I'm too afraid to mention by name. (starts with a Soc and ends in an iology)

in my experience, maintaining a minimum 3.2 was not a problem. granted, i worked very hard... but still, i "had a life," and my gpa definitely exceeded the minimum... i wouldn't worry! make sure you go to class though - i think one of the biggest problems for people that led to lower grades than they would have liked was skipping class. (this would be the case anywhere)
